Box Score HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Mississippi Valley State women's soccer team put up a valiant effort but was unable to come away with a victory Tuesday night at Southern Miss in its season-opening game.
The Golden Eagles defeated the Devilettes 8-0 in a game that was called off with less than 13 minutes remaining due to darkness on the field. With 12:24 left on the clock, the game was called off due to a lack of lights on the USM field.
The Devilettes notched five shots on the night, including two in the first half. A header by All-SWAC selection Nykosi Simmons went high at the 11:02 mark and Josee Primeau's shot went wide with 36:50 on the clock. Primeau was able to get off two additional shots in the second half, although one was saved and other went over the goal. Hailey Beekman also attempted a shot at the 57:39 mark.
MVSU goalkeeper Anna Noonan had four saves on the night.
The Devilettes will be at home Friday hosting Central Arkansas at 6 p.m.
