Box Score DENTON, Texas -- The Mississippi Valley State volleyball team opened the 2014 season with a 3-0 loss Friday to Missouri in the first match of the North Texas Invitational. It marked the first game for new Valley head coach Douglas Hunter. Alexandria Garland led Valley with 15 assists while senior Halee Clark had a team-high six kills, as Mizzou defeated the Devilettes 25-7, 25-11, 25-17 at the North Texas Volleyball Center.
Freshman Bianca Watkins added four kills while Ilashia Hale chipped in three for a Devilette squad that now prepares to take on the host team, North Texas, and Northwestern State on Saturday. MVSU and North Texas are set to play at 11 a.m. and the final game of the day is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Steffi Rodriguez accounted for six of Valley's 22 digs and had a service ace. Hale led the team with a .333 hitting percentage.
