MVSU volleyball loses pair of games at tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Mississippi Valley State closed out the final day of the Chattanooga Classic volleyball tournament Saturday with a pair of losses to the host team, Chattanooga, and Wright State.

In both games, MVSU lost 3-0 and the Devilettes fell to 1-7 on the season.

In the first game, against Chattanooga, the Devilettes lost in straight sets: 25-9, 25-14, 25-8. Ilashia Hale had a team-high hitting percentage of .375 in the game while Halee Clark finished with five kills. Alexanria Garland paced MVSU with 14 assists and Cynthia Richardson finished with two blocking assists.

In the final game of the tournament, against Wright State, MVSU fell again in straight sets: 25-12, 25-17, 25-18. Again, Clark led the team in kills (6) and Garland finished with 13 assists. Meanwhile, Steffi Rodriguez had 12 digs in the game.

Valley's Halle Gayten was named to the All-Tournament team.

MVSU will play its first home game of the season Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Fisk University at the Charles Lackey Recreational Center on the MVSU campus.
