Alcorn State defeats Delta Devils

ITTA BENA -- Mississippi Valley State put a four-quarter fight Saturday but came up on the wrong side of the scoreboard Saturday against Alcorn State.

The Delta Devils fell 52-9 to the Braves at Rice-Totten Stadium in front of a packed house of 8,673.

MVSU scored all of its points in the third quarter on a safety by Jeremiah Russell and a 39-yard touchdown catch by freshman Tavis James, the first of his career.

Jerrell Moore eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season. He rushed for 120 yards on 16 carries including a 61-yard run.

Patrick Ivy started at quarterback for Valley but split time with Quantavius Peterson and Dontrinell Scott. Ivy finished with 99 passing yards and a touchdown with three interceptions on 9-of-22 passes.

Avery Boykin paced the Delta Devils with 11 tackles (eight solo) and a pass breakup. Antonio Benson had a forced fumble and five tackles.

MVSU will be back at home next Saturday against Alabama A&M at 4 p.m.
