GREENWOOD, Miss. -- Mississippi Valley State pushed Prairie View A&M to the limit Saturday night, but the Panthers withstood the Delta Devils to secure a 72-65 victory.
DeAngelo Priar led Valley (2-17, 1-5 SWAC) with 14 points while Isaac Williams added 13. Jabari Alex had a career-high 10 points off the bench for MVSU.
Five Prairie View players scored in double-figures, led by Montrael Scott's 18 points.
Valley trailed 65-63 following a dunk by MVSU's Jeffrey Simmons that brought fans to their feet. But an ensuing turnover by the Delta Devils and a pair of free throws from Tre Hagood pushed the Panthers ahead 68-64 with under a minute to play.
Priar made one of a pair of free throw that cut the lead to a one possession game, 68-65. However, on the next play Prairie View's Scott made a game-icing jumper to seal the win.
MVSU shot 40 percent from the field and made 5-of-17 three-pointers.
Valley will be back at home Monday night at 8 p.m. against Texas Southern.
