The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University rattled the nets for five goals against the Lady Hornets of Alabama State University on Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets started out with a physical game plan to slow down the speedy and more athletic Devilettes. After twenty minutes of play Ernestina Abambila found the nets for the first of her three goals. Ten minutes into the second half the Lady Hornets tied the score at 1-1 with a goal from Aaliyah Lewis.
"To score five goals against a very difficult Alabama State team is amazing. Big players show up in big games and our players showed up. Our players showed up; we responded well after ASU tied the game 1-1. After their goal, we took command of the game and created all the dangerous plays," stated Head Coach Fabio Boateng.
Rallying behind the oppositions score the Devilettes put out an impressive offensive display the remainder of the game. The "Canadian Comet" Nykosi Simmons started the scoring spree followed by a goal from Laadi Issaka. Abambila scored off a free kick and a spirited exhibition of individual skill.
Mariana Balbao recorded two assists for the contest, while goalie Rita Gyasi tallied five saves.
The Devilettes travel to our nations capital to face the reigning SWAC Conference Champions Lady Bisons of Howard University October 23.
