DECATUR, Ala. --- In their second contest of the 2015 Softball tournament, the Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes fell 7-3 to the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University.
Jackson scored one run in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead over their in-state rival, Mississippi Valley. Undaunted, the Devilettes' Deja Talton landed a homerun in the fourth, to bring the score within one. The Lady Tigers scored twice in the fifth to lengthen their lead back to three. In the bottom of the fifth, MVSU rallied back with two runs to once again bridge the gap; however three runs in the seventh sealed the victory for JSU.
Game Two:
Mississippi Valley State handed Southern University their first loss of the tournament on day one of the tournament and eliminated them on day two. The Devilettes defeated the Lady Jags 12-4 in a win or go home situation.
Southern drew first blood, landing on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the first. Holding the Devilettes scoreless in the second, the Lady Jags tacked on an additional run in the second. Undeterred Mississippi Valley rallied back to score eight runs in the third inning alone (8-3). MVSU scored three in the fourth, prior to a Lady Jag stealing home in the fifth, to prevent a five inning contest (run-rule). It merely delayed the inevitable as the Devilettes scored one run in the top of the six to seal their victory.
Mississippi Valley will face the Lady Hornets of Alabama State University on May 8, 2015. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
