HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes blazed through the opening quarter, before falling 79-68 to the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University.
In the opening minutes of the contest, MVSU was able to land the first basket of the contest after a miss by Alabama A&M University. Both teams rallied to create scoring opportunities, however at the end of the first, the score was tied at 19-points each.
During the first two quarters, Christina Reed paced the Devilettes with 16-points, five rebounds and one assist. Kahdejah Stevens added eight points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal.
Pacing the Lady Bulldogs during the first half was Janie Myles with 10-points. Entering the break, AAMU held a 41-33 lead.
Exiting the locker rooms after halftime, Alabama A & M embarked on an impressive run, yet the Devilettes were far from out of the contest. At the beginning of fourth, MVSU trailed by ten, 62-52.
In the fourth the Lady Bulldogs took a commanding lead. With less than five minutes in the contest, Mississippi Valley dug deep to cut into the point deficit. Their efforts fell short as they dropped the contest on the road.
Reed led all scoring with 31-points, eight rebounds, three assists and one block. Ashley Beals chipped in 19-points, nine rebounds and one assist; while Stevens tallied a double double 12-points, 10 rebounds, five assists and one block.
Myles completed the contest with 20-points, six rebounds, three steals and one assist to aid the Lady Bulldogs in the victory.
Mississippi Valley returns home to host the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University and the Lady Jaguars of Southern University on Saturday and Monday respectively.
"I think the team had an excellent game. They played well together but there are several key elements we need to work on for the rest of the season," said Head Coach Elvis Robinson.
