Itta Bena, Mississippi… On an evening dedicated to celebrating the achievements of civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes fell 99-36 to the Lady Jaguars of Southern University.
Khadejah Stevens started the game strong with a driving lay-up in the paint yet scoring down low haunted the Devilettes all game. The Devilettes shot 25% from the field while allowing the Lady Jaguars to score half of their points in the post.
Khadejah Stevens and Christina Reed lead the Devilettes in scoring with 14 and 12 points respectively.
"Tonight we played a very strong Southern team. Turnovers plagued the team, we have to handle the ball better offensively and force the other team to turn it over," said Head Coach Elvis Robinson.
The Devilettes will regroup and head to Houston, Texas, to face perennial conference power Texas Southern on Saturday, January 23
rd at 5:30 pm.
