Devilettes Unable to Overthrow the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern

Houston – Christina Reed continued to ball out of control to pace the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists. Ashley Beals followed with nine points and four rebounds. Kahdejah Stevens finished five and five in the points and rebounds categories, she also tallied two steals. Zemoria Jerigan also pulled down five rebounds to aid Mississippi Valley in their 76-38 loss to the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University.
 
After one complete period TSU led MVSU 24-7, however they were able to out pace the Lady Tigers 15-10 in the second quarter. Down 34-22 going into the halftime break, the Devilettes had to come out pressuring on defense and blazing on offense.
 
In the third, Texas Southern was able to double Mississippi Valley's nine points, scoring 18 to strengthen their lead. The final quarter saw TSU explode, outscoring the Devilettes 24-7.
  
"We faced a strong opponent in Texas Southern. They are currently undefeated in conference play. We can't dwell on tonight's contest but must prepare for Prairie View, our Monday opponent," said Head Coach Elvis Robinson.
 
Mississippi Valley will take on Prairie View A & M on Monday in Prairie View, Texas. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
