Troubling Second Period Hinders Devilettes at Prairie View

Prairie View, Texas – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes were unable to contain the Lady Panthers' strong offensive pressure, dropping the contest 80-57.
 
In the opening quarter, MVSU was able to land 17-points, however PVAMU held the advantage with 23.  The second proved to be more problematic for the Devilettes; the Lady Panthers took a serious lead with a 17-5 quarter.  
 
The third quarter was the closest period of the contest with a 19-20 edge in favor of PVAMU. In the final quarter MVSU capitulated to a 16-20 deficit to the Lady Panthers.
 
Ashley Beals completed the contest with 17-points, six rebounds and one steal to pace Mississippi Valley offensive unit. Christina Reed followed with 14-points, six rebounds and two steals to aid in the Devilettes' effort.
 
Three MVSU athletes finished with eight-points, Kahdejah Stevens, Zemoria Jernigan and Feleshia Walters. Stevens also tallied eight rebounds, seven of which were defensive, to lead the Mississippi Valley defensive efforts.
 
As a team, MVSU scored 24-points in the paint, six fast break points and 16-points off turnovers. From the charity stripe, the Devilettes went 14-18 for 77.8 percent.
 
"Tonight we did a better job of handling the ball, we still have a ways to go. On Saturday we host Jackson State at home so we have to use the rest of the week to prepare," said Head Coach Elvis Robinson.
 
Join Mississippi Valley on Saturday as they host the Tigers of Jackson State University at the Leflore County Civic Center. Tipoff is set for 2:00 pm.
