GREENWOOD, Miss.- The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball team were unable to push pass the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University, suffering a 72-46 loss.
In the opening period, Mississippi Valley allowed Jackson State to take a sizable lead; entering the second the Devilettes were down 19-8. Kahdejah Stevens and Ashley Beals each contributed three points to pace the Devilettes. Christina Reed dominated the paint, pulling down five rebounds.
The final ten minutes of the half, MVSU was unable to gain any traction on the offensive front, ending the half with 16 points, while Jackson entered the break with 40. Beals added six points to her first quarter total to end the half with nine points, and three rebounds.
The second half saw a settling of the Mississippi Valley ladies. They pulled down more rebounds in the third and added a larger number of points; the Devilettes scored 19 points in the third.
With ten minutes remaining and a mountain to climb, Mississippi Valley dug deep, however Jackson State was able to hold the Devilettes to 11 points in the final period.
Beals fell one rebound shy of a double double with 18 points, nine rebounds. Reed tabulated nine points, six rebounds, two assists and one block, while Stevens added seven points, five rebounds and one steal.
Mississippi Valley will be back in action on Monday, February 1, 2016 at 5:30 pm when they play their third consecutive Lady Tiger team.
