GREENWOOD, Miss.- The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University women's basketball team were unable to overcome the Grambling State University Lady Tigers, falling 65-52 loss.
The first quarter's energy opened with the Devilettes taking an early lead. The Lady Tigers battled back to make it a contest. At the conclusion of the period, GSU held a seven-point advantage with a 16-9 lead.
The second quarter saw a surge in favor of Mississippi Valley, however Grambling State would hold a slight edge in the quarter. MVSU trailed GSU 30-22 going into the locker room. Christina Reed led the team in the opening half with eight points.
In the third, the Devilettes turned up the heat, roasting the Lady Tigers 21-15. Entering the final ten minutes on the clock, MVSU was down by two points. Mississippi Valley closed the gap early in the final period, however a late run by Grambling State sealed the contest.
Zemoria Jernigan paced MVSU with 20-points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals. Reed tallied 14-points, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Kahdejah Stevens added 12-points, three rebounds, one block and one steal.
Head Coach Elvis Robinson said, "Tonight we played a great game but Grambling played harder."
The Devilettes will be back in action on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm when they host the Lady Hornets of Alabama State University.
