HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Mississippi Valley State' volleyball team was unable to topple over the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A & M University, dropping the contest 3-0.
The breakdown according to sets was: 25-22, 25-12 and 25-15. MVSU really pushed solidly in the opening set.
The Devilettes opened the serving and scoring in the opening set. After a one-point play by the Lady Bulldogs, Mississippi Valley went on a four-point run for a 6-1 lead. The Lady Bulldogs clawed their way back into the contest to win by three.
AAMU started the second set and quickly took command of the scoreboard. The Devilettes were able to muster a defensive stance, however the Lady Bulldogs were able to overcome for a 2-0 lead over the visiting Mississippi Valley team.
Brooklyn Hudson started the third serving. An error on the Devilettes gave Alabama A&M their first point. MVSU took an early lead, however AAMU was able to regain the lead and take the game and match in a sweep.
Megan Jones recorded six kills to pace Mississippi Valley. Marissa Chalmers recorded five kills and one ace. Cynthia Richardson was able to tally four kills. Jaime Polk tallied 10 assists, while Hudson added eight.
Mississippi Valley returns home to host the Colonels of Nicholls State University on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m.
