Devilettes Faced-Off Against Baylor

WACO – The third game of the season found the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley on the road in Waco, Texas, facing off against the Baylor University Bears.

The opening quarter wasn't a runaway for the Bears, the Devilettes were down 27-10 when the buzzer sounded. Kenya Hailey scored the first points for MVSU on a jumper with 7:29 remaining in the quarter. A foul by Ashley Beals sent BU's Nina Davis to the line, where she made one of two free throws. Lauren Elliot scored the next points for Mississippi Valley, Beals was credited with the assist.
Christina Reed made her presence known with 4:13, with an in the paint jumper, cutting Baylor's lead to nine. MVSU and BU quickly increased the pace of the game.

Reed led the Devilettes in the opening half with eight-points, two steals and one rebound. Lauren Elliot added three steals for Mississippi Valley. Beals pulled down five rebounds while scoring three-points.

In the third quarter, Baylor upheld their defensive pressure, holding MVSU to five points, while scoring 28. In the fourth, the Devilettes offensive gained power, putting up 12-points. They surrendered 24 to the Bears, dropping the contest 101-36.

Elliot completed the contest with 11-points, one assist and one rebound, while Reed tallied eight points, three steals and two rebounds. Hailey, Jazmine Holmon and Alexandria Tarrant each completed the contest with four-points.

Reed finished with 15-points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist. Elliot dropped 12-points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist. Ashley Beals tallied eight-points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal. Rickeisha Sheard's hands were lightning quick as she finished with five steals and four rebounds.

The Devilettes will travel on to face Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, on November 25 at 6:30 p.m.
