HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to face the Lady Eagles of the University of Southern Mississippi, succumbing 83-55.
MVSU's Lauren Elliot started scoring with a jumper, taking the Devilettes up 2-0 within the 9:49. A steal by Kenya Hailey led to a fast break layup by Christina Reed (9:24) with an assist Elliot carried Mississippi Valley up 4-0. A foul on MVSU sent USM's Britanny Dinkins to the free throw line for two. A layup by Kenya Arnold took the Devilettes up 6-2 with 8:23 remaining in the quarter. A successful run by the Lady Eagles placed them up 25-10 at the end of the first.
The second continued along the same vein as the first with the Devilettes being able to land 14-points, while holding Southern Miss. to 19. After two quarters, Reed paced Mississippi Valley with 13-points, three assists, three steals and one assist.
In the third, MVSU turned it around with a 26-point quarter while holding the Lady Eagles to 19. The fourth was a difficult one for Mississippi Valley, as they were only able to score five to USM's 20.
Reed finished with 16-points, six rebounds, three steals and assists. Lynshawn Ebron tallied 11-points, one rebound and one assist.
