Delta Devils Battle Seattle

SEATTLE – (Men's Basketball) The men's basketball team fought valiantly against the Seattle University Redhawks, yet they fell short 82-67.

The opening half of the contest was heavily in favor of Seattle as the half wrapped 51-23. A three-point basket by Brendan Westendorf started scoring at the 19:09 mark. Isaac Williams responded with an unassisted jumper. A foul by Williams followed the scoring drive. The Redhawks scored a layup in the paint to carry SU up 5-2 with 18:14 remaining in the half. An additional two points by Seattle extended the lead. Rashaan Surles scored a jumper with 16:48 remaining. MVSU didn't score again until the 11:58 mark on a layup by TaJay Henry in the paint.

The second half was in favor of Mississippi Valley as they outpaced Seattle University 44-31, however time expired before the Delta Devils could complete their rally.
Amos Given fouled at the 19:45 mark sending William Powell to the charity stripe. Powell made both free-throws taking the Redhawks up 53-23. Given began scoring for MVSU with 17:15 remaining in the contest to close the deficit to 55-25. Williams scored a layup to bring the score to 59-29. With 12:35 remaining, Williams nailed a three-point basket to take the Delta Devils to 32-points, while Seattle maintained 61.

The Redhawks were able to score but the Delta Devils were able to score more. Surles paced Mississippi Valley with 15-points, three assists and three steals. Darrell Riley and Isaac Williams each tallied 14-points. Riley also added three assists, two rebounds and one steal; while Williams chimed in eight rebounds.
