Devilettes Swept in Day Two of Louisiana Tech Tourney

RUSTON, La. - The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley played the hosting Louisiana Tech with dew still on the field, and finished the day with a 7-0 loss to Abilene Christian University.
 
With a balmy 64 degrees and winds out of the south at one mile an hour, the 9:15 am start time of the contest between Mississippi Valley and Louisiana Tech was ideal softball weather.
 
The Lady Techters were able to outmaneuver the Devilettes to the tune of 6-0. Scoring runs in the first, second, fourth and sixth on 11 hits, Louisiana Tech only conceded one error in the entire contest.
 
All was not lost for MVSU, the ladies were able to warm up their bats, landing five hits and successfully recording an error free contest.
 
Shyanne Downing was the pitcher of record for MVSU, took the loss in the pitcher's circle. Downing allowed eight hits, five runs, five errors, three walks, one hit by pitch and one balk. She also struck out four batters. Monica Rivera served as the relief pitcher, conceded three hits, one run, one error, one walk, one wild pitch and one hit by pitch. She struck out one batter.
 
Deja Talton and Kailyn Dunn each recorded two hits each.
 
In game two, Mississippi Valley sought to turn the tide in their favor. They were unable to complete this task as ACU took the contest 7-0.
 
With slight cloud coverage and balmy 70-degree temps, MVSU's Rebekah Clinton took the field to lead the charge for the Devilettes' from the pitcher's circle.
 
Pitching six complete innings, Clinton allowed six hits and seven runs. She also recorded five errors, four walks and three strikeouts.
 
Mississippi Valley finished with two hits and five errors.
