GRAMBLING, La. - Surviving a last second rally, in which the opponent's narrowly attempted a 10-point comeback, the Delta Devils defeated the Tigers of Grambling State University, 58-57.
Following a Damian Young steal, Marcus Romain scored a driving fast break layup giving the Delta Devils a 57-47 advantage with one minute and thirty seconds remaining in the contest. A bevy of turnovers ensued, allowing the Tigers to decrease the lead to 57-55 with twenty seconds remianing in this classic Southwestern Athletic Conference showdown.
Issac Williams' free throw with twelve ticks put the proverbial "nail in the coffin," however Romain's defensive rebound after a missed attempt at the charity stripe by Grambling's Arnold Richmond with 1.3 seconds remaining, "put the hammer to the nail."
Romain led the Mississippi Valley with 19-points and nine rebounds, while Ta'Jay Henry added nine rebounds with seven coming on the defensive end.
Currently the Delta Devils are waiting seeding information, to make another epic run at a SWAC Championship, after they travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to take on the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, March 5. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM.
