Rocky Day on the Diamond for Devilettes

ITTA BENA – The Devilettes softball team dropped each game in their doubleheader against the Lady Lions of the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. In the first contest, UAPB won 13-8 and took the second 17-14 in an extra inning.
 
Game One:
 
UAPB managed to take commanding lead in the opening inning, going up 7-0 in the top of the first. MVSU was held scoreless in the first. In the second, the Devilettes didn't allow the Lady Lions to score a run.
 
In the second, Mississippi Valley saw two runners score to close the deficit. Annaisa Sanchez singled and advanced to second on the throw. On the play she earned two RBIs when Ikeyia Alexander and Kailyn Dunn scored.
 
Neither team scored in the third and forth innings, however UAPB landed three runs in the fifth. MVSU responded with one of their own in the bottom of the fifth. Dunn singled to score Holly Borwn.
 
In the sixth, the Lady Lions scored another runner. The Devilettes landed two runs in the bottom of the inning. Sanchez stepped into the batters' box and nailed a triple into right center field, scoring Ane Pahulu. Brown was caught stealing second and Sanchez scored on the throw.
 
Pine Bluff nailed a homer in the seventh for two RBIs.
 
Game Two:
 
Game two of the double proved to be a high scoring thriller, with the Lady Lions winning the contest 17-14.
 
UAPB scored four runs to start the contest quickly. MVSU responded with a run of their own when Ikeyia Alexander sent a sacrifice fly to the right fielder to score Dejanae Gage.
 
The second inning saw plenty of action as Pine Bluff scored two runs. Mississippi Valley scored a game high of eight runs in the bottom of the inning.
 
Jahcenda Garrett peeled the ball on a single, scoring Brown. On a double by Deja Talton, Garrett and Alexandra Dobbins came in to score. KAilyn Dunn singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error by the pitcher, scoring Talton and Gage. Sanchez reached first on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second, while Ikeyia Alexander earned a run for the Devilettes. Holly Brown found first on an error by the second baseman and Sanchez scored.
 
The Lady Lions scored one in the third, while Mississippi Valley scored two runners. Alexander singled to score Gage prior to Pahulu singling to bring Talton home. Neither team scored in the fourth, however in the fifth UAPB scored five runs and another in the top of the sixth.
 
In the bottom of the same inning, Mississippi Valley also scored a run. Garrett walked with the bases loaded to score Sanchez. MVSU landed two additional runs in the seventh to knot the contest at 14 all. Pahulu singled to score Dunn. Brown reached first on an error by the second baseman, scoring Brown.
 
In the eighth UAPB scored three runs to take the victory.
 
The Devilettes will host the University of Central Arkansas at 4:00 pm on Tuesday March 22. The contest serves as Staff Appreciation Day.
