HOUSTON - The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes struggled in their contest against Texas Southern, dropping the contest 11-3.
The Lady Tigers were able to go up 1-0 in the opening inning after holding the Devilettes scoreless in the top of the inning. Both teams were unable to score in the second inning, however Texas Southern exploded with four runners crossing the home plate in the third.
Mississippi Valley scored two runs in the top of the fourth, to close in on Texas Southern. Alexandra Dobbins homered, bringing in Holly Brown on the play. The Lady Tigers responded with four more runs to increase the point difference.
In the top of the fifth, and final inning, MVSU's Annaisa Sanchez sent a beautiful spiral over the fence for another Devilettes' homerun. TSU scored to additional runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest in five innings.
Rebekah Clinton took the pitcher's circle for Mississippi Valley, pitching 3.2 innings. During that time, she relinquished nine runs on 11 hits, eight errors, one walk and four strikeouts.
Mississippi Valley and Texas Southern will clash again in a doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 2:00 pm.
