HOUSTON – The Devilettes and Lady Tigers of Texas Southern split their doubleheader today. In game one the Lady Tigers were victorious 5-4 and Mississippi Valley took the rubber match 4-2.
Game one:
The game started rocky for both teams, as neither team scored in the opening two innings. The Devilettes struck first, scoring a run in the top of the third. Deja Talton sacrificed to left field to score Dejanae Gage.
Texas Southern score one in the fourth and sixth before MVSU added three in the top of the seventh. Alexandra Dobbins walked to score Talton. Sharia Comier singled to score Holly Brown and Kailyn Dunn.
TSU landed two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the contest for extra innings. Going ten innings, the contest remained knotted until Texas Southern scored one run in the bottom of the tenth.
Game two:
In the rubber match, after going extra innings in game one, the Devilettes bounced back to take the win.
As with game one, the opening innings were scoreless. MVSU scored the first run of the contest in the top of the third to take an early lead. Talton singled to left field to score Gage.
The Lady Tigers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Undeterred, the Devilettes responded with a single run in the top of the fifth. Dobbins came home for an unearned run on a single to right field by Annaisa Sanchez.
TSU scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Comier singled and advanced to second on the throw, earning two RBIs on the play. Ane Pahulu and Jordan Brown each came in on the play.
