NASHVILLE – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State and the Bisons of Lipscomb University battled in a doubleheader in Nashville, Tennessee, with MVSU dropping both contests. In game one of the double Lipscomb defeated Mississippi Valley 11-1 in seven innings and 16-3 in game two.
Cecil Hodges took the mound for the Delta Devils in game one. In the first inning, LU took an early lead, scoring two runs. The Bisons were able to land four in the sixth and five in the seventh.
Mississippi Valley's lone run scored came in the top of the sixth when Edward Cox tripled to right center to bring in Quitman Smith.
Hodges pitched five complete innings, relinquished five hits, five runs, three errors and five walks.
Game two:
The Bisons started the game with a four run inning in the bottom of the first. Mississippi Valley added one run in the top of the third. Despite grounding out to second baseman, Cox scored Smith. In the bottom of the third, LU scored three more runs to extend their lead.
The bottom of the fifth saw Lipscomb score an additional run and five in the sixth. MVSU landed another run in the top of the eighth and ninth. Cox's bat was blazing for MVSU as he earned his third RBI for the night in the top of the eighth on a single to score Caleb Lindsey. In the top of the ninth, Marshall Parish scored on a wild pitch to wrap up the Delta Devils' scoring. The Bisons scored three in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Cole Gullette took the loss for Mississippi Valley on the mound.
