ITTA BENA – After defeating the Alcorn State Braves in their conference opener 5-1, the Delta Devils are tied for first in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Eastern division.
First basemen Gabriel Waddell brought in Edward Cox on a RBI single for the game's first run. Waddell and Alex Bravo also scored in the bottom of the first giving the Delta Devils a three run lead after one inning.
In the bottom of the second inning Edward Cox strode to the plate and blasted a rocket over the left centerfield fence for his first home run of the season. Along with eight stolen bases for the season, the West Point, Mississippi, native also has five RBIs and is proving to be an integral part of the 2016 team.
Greenville, Mississippi, native Arrington Smith recorded his first win of the season going 8 innings and allowing one earned run along with eight strikeouts.
The Delta Devils take the diamond tomorrow at 1 p.m. for game two against the Braves.
