LORMAN – The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils were unable to take game one of their three game series against the Braves of Alcorn State, falling 11-4.
Mississippi Valley struck first, scoring one in the first. Gabriel Waddell singled to score Drew Wheeler. The Braves responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. Both teams were scoreless in the second and the Delta Devils were unable to score in third, however the Braves were able to land one in the bottom of the inning.
Mississippi Valley was able to add one run in the top of the fourth. Chris McWright performed a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to score Waddell. Alcorn responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The Braves added two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. MVSU scored two runs in the top of the seventh. Wheeler doubled down the left line scoring Fredrick Spencer and Quitman Smith.
Alcorn scored once in the seventh and once in the eighth. MVSU finished with four runs, eight hits and six errors.
