Devilettes Split With Jackson State on Day Two

ITTA BENA – The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes' softball team hosted the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University, splitting the games. In game one MVSU won 8-5 and dropped the second 11-10.
 
The Lady Tigers landed the first blow with a runner scored in the top of the first. MVSU didn't score in the bottom of the inning and Jackson took a 1-0 lead into the second. Undeterred, Mississippi Valley's bats exploded in the second, with five runs scored.
 
Alexandra Dobbins reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second while Ikeyia Alexander scored. Jahcenda Garrett singled to bring in Sharia Comier and Dobbins. With a bat shattering triple, Annaisa Sanchez scored Garrett and Dejanae Gage.
 
In the third JSU landed two runs to come within two of the Devilettes, however in the bottom of the inning a sacrifice fly by Comier scored Dunn to take MVSU back up three.
 
In the fifth, the Lady Tigers scored one runner and held Mississippi Valley scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Jackson was unable to score in the top of the sixth but MVSU was able to get two runners in in the bottom of the inning.
 
With a ripping triple down the leftfield line, Kailyn Dunn pushed Deja Talton across home plate and Alexander's sacrifice fly to right field scored Dunn.
 
Jackson score once in the seventh to wrap all scoring.
 
Game Two:
 
Game two was a fight to the finish, as both teams came out swinging. Jackson State once again scored first, earning one run in the top of the first. Mississippi Valley responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Deja Talton doubled to score Jahcenda Garrett and Ikeyia Alexander grounded out to the third baseman to score Talton.
 
In a flurry of activities, Jackson State built a commanding lead, scoring five runs in the second. The Devilettes scored one in the bottom of the third; Kailyn Dunn singled to score Talton.
 
JSU scored one in the fourth. In the fifth, Mississippi Valley scored three runs in the fifth. Annaisa Sanchez landed a triple to score Garrett and Dejanae Gage. Alexander reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second to score Sanchez. Jackson responded with a run in the sixth. MVSU scored four in the fourth.
 
Garrett reached on an error and advanced all the way to third and Gage scored. Sanchez singled and scored Garrett. Talton doubled to score Sanchez. Dunn singled to score Talton.
 
In the top of the seventh, Jackson scored three runs to win close the contest and take the victory.
