ITTA BENA, Miss. --- The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes defeated the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State in an explosive 3-2 contest at the UTC Tournament.

The scores by sets are as follows: 25-20 (MVSU), 26-24 (MVSU), 25-23 (SCSU), 25-23 (SCSU) and 15-11 (MVSU). Mississippi Valley finished with 63 kills on 182 total attacks; while South Carolina State tallied 50 kills on 161 attacks.

Kalin Barnes had a phenomenal performance to rally the Devilettes to victory. She led the team with 23 kills and two aces and was also a force with three assists and 11 digs. Cynthia Richardson could not be contained as she tallied 16 kills and one block. Megan Jones added seven kills and two blocks.
Brooklyn Hudson may not have made the kill but her 40 assists definitely placed her team in the driver's seat. Hudson also recorded one ace. In digs, Sydney Robinson finished with 20, while Victoria Hicks added 17.

MVSU will take on the hosting University of Tennessee at 7:00 pm to wrap up their opening tournament.
