Devilettes’ Second Half Display Falters Against Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark.--- The Devilettes scored two goals in their 3-2 loss to the Red Wolves of Arkansas State.

The first 45 minutes of play (opening half) saw both teams remain scoreless; however the second half of the game provided the spectators with rapid action and goals. All five goals were scored in the span of 20 minutes and the Devilettes; neither team was able to score in the final 25 minutes.

MVSU dropped to 0-5 on the season and will play one more non-conference game (Millsaps College) before settling into their conference schedule. The Devilettes are scheduled to play MC on September 18 at 1 p.m.

Phenomenal Laadi Issaka scored the first goal of the contest 46 seconds in the second to give Mississippi Valley a one-point edge. In the 47th minute Arian Delli Carpini scored ASU's first goal on a penalty kick. Less than a minute later, the Red Wolves scored again in a goal by Annica Karlsson. Taylor Schneider scored in the 52nd minute to finish scoring for Arkansas State. Mariana Balbao scored the final goal of the contest on a penalty kick at the 62:41 mark.

MVSU recorded seven shots with four being on target; ASU recorded 14 shots with eight being shots on goal.

Mississippi Valley's goalie Rita Gyasi recorded five saves, two in the first and three in the second.
