ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes were able to stall the offensive progress of Howard University, going through both 45-minute halves and two ten-minute overtime periods. It was after 110-minutes of play that the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Howard's Kela Gray scored the first goal of the contest in under three minutes of play on a long ball. Laadi Issaka tied the contest for the first time at 23:23 on a brilliant pass by Mariana Balbao.
Minutes later (26:15) the duo of Issaka and Balboa were able to strike pay dirt again, burying the ball deep into the goal. Entering halftime, Mississippi Valley held a 2-1 advantage.
The Lady Bisons' Anna Mitchell was able to find the goal at the 48:54 mark to knot the game at two-all. Mitchell's goal served as the last of the contest.
Rita Gyasi, MSVU's goalie, made nine saves, two in the first and five during the second and one in overtime. Howard's goalies were able to record six saves; four in the first, one in the second and one in the extra periods.
MVSU will host the Lady Tigers of Jackson State University on September 30 at 7:00 p.m.
