ITTA BENA, Miss.- The Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils football team put up a valiant effort while hosting the Panthers of Prairie View A & M University. MVSU's rally fell short in their 56-21 loss to PVAMU.

Terrance Singleton made Prairie View's first touchdown early in the first quarter. The Panthers' Terrance Reynolds from PVAMU caught the crowd's attention with his ability to cover the entire field. Booker Chambers scampered on a phenomenal play; it was Reynolds who halted Chambers' progress down the field.Â

It was 13-seconds into the second quarter that the Delta Devils scored their first touchdown with Austin Bray rushing into the end zone. Ruben Piraquive's point after attempt was successful.

Jamaine Boyd and Marquis Green were so fired up that they leveled Joshua Simmons stopping his progress after a 57-yard kickoff return. A holding penalty against the Panthers sent the return team back to the spot of the foul.

Number 19 Anthony Wiltz of Prairie View made the second touchdown with 77 yards and the point after was no good. Booker Chambers was pushed out of bounds by panthers #30 Sonnie Williams which resulted in a 15 yard penalty for them and made an automatic 1st down for Valley.

Late in the third, Slade Jarman entered the contest and threw a 30-yard pass to Tre Simms for the Delta Devil touchdown. With 30-seconds left in the third quarter, PVAMU scored again making the score 42-14, in favor of the Panthers.

Bray completed went 14-26-3 for 174 yards and one rushing touchdown. Jarman completed 5-5-0 for 74-yards and one touchdown. Thurston Rubin, Jr. also took some snaps for MVSU, going 5-7-0 for 43-yards and one touchdown. Charlie Crenshaw picked up 28 net yards on seven yards, while Thomas Stokes, Jr. gained 11-yards on seven carries as well.

Barron recorded 72-yards on two receptions and Joshua Banks added 54-yards on six. Senior Khalil Young served as the driving force behind the Mississippi Valley State defense with nine tackles (seven solos and two assists), 2.5 tackles for a loss of 11-yards, one sack for an eight-yard loss and one force fumble. Young also recorded a quarterback hurry to put pressure on the Panther offense. Bryant Jones tallied six tackles (2 solo and 4 assists); Marquis Green added five total tackles (three solo and two assists) and one pass breakup. Devan McAllister and Everett Nicholas each recorded an interception.
