Hammond, La. – The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes were edged out by Southeastern University Lady Lions 2-1 in Hammond, Louisiana.
 
Laadi Issaka gave Mississippi Valley (0-3) an early 1-0 lead before sophomore prior to Southeastern's Sofia Olsson landing a goal halfway through the half off a corner by junior Maggie Ramsey.
 
The first half ended knotted at one. With under 10 minutes remaining in the contest, the Lady Lions' Maddie Kresevic found the goal on a pass from Christina Cutura; give SEU the edge in the contest.
 
Rita Gyasi, MSVU's goalie, made 13 saves, including five in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Gyasi kept the Devilettes within one by deflecting a brilant shot by the Lady Lions in the 83nd minute; however Mississippi Valley was unable to rally back.
 
MVSU will travel to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on September 9. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
