LORMAN, Miss. (Women's Basketball) – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley suffered a disappointing 69-49 loss at the hands of the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University. After technical difficulties subsided, it was game time. The first possession of the contest went to the Devilettes. The Lady Braves had a quick turn over but were unsuccessful in their attempt.
In the first quarter, the Devilettes started the game with the first points coming from Christina Reed. She followed her the opening points with not two, three or four, but seven additional points; leaving the score MVSU 12 and ASU 18.
At the top of the 2nd quarter Alcorn had possession and attempted a jumper. Lynshawn Ebron subbed in for Lauren Elliot at 9:37. An unnoticeable pass to Ebron from Reed led to foul on Ebron by Alcorn State. A rebound by Elliot led to a cross-town pass to Reed and an additional two-points for Mississippi Valley. At the media timeout, the Lady Braves led 27 to 19.
The third quarter was started with a basket by Ashley Beals, while Kenya Hailey assisted Reed's next basket. Kristy Parker made her point debut to close the gap by six-points.
The Lady Braves made a basket at the top of the fourth that left the Devilettes only ten-points away. Parker attempted a three, however she was off by inches. After the first media, Alcorn was up 57-43 over Mississippi Valley.
With a series of fast paced shots, the Devilettes were unable to overcome the point deficit. Mississippi Valley will be in action again, when they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face the Lady Jaguars of Southern on January 16 at 5:30 pm.
