MONTGOMERY – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes rebounded perfectly after dropping a 3-0 contest to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, by defeating the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A & M University.
Game One:
In the opening contest, UAPB swept the contest in straight sets, with scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-13. With pressure during the second set, the Devilettes were poised to take the contest.
MVSU finished with 33-kills and 15-errors on 138 total attacks.
Barnes finished with a double-double, with 13 kills and 15 digs. She also added one block during the contest. Taylor Selfridge tallied 12 digs, six kills and two assists. Jamie Polk was a force finishing with 23 assists.
Game Two:
The Lady Panthers of Prairie View A & M University tested the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State, however the MVSU turned up the heat, taking the contest 3-1. The score by set was 25-22, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-22.
There were several blazing stars for the Devilettes against the Lady Panthers. Kalin Barnes and Taylor Selfridge each put up a double-double. Barnes tallied 14-digs, 12-kills; while Selfridge finished with 15-kills, 11-digs. Haley Buard added five kills.
Jaime Polk, Barnes and Selfridge each scored one ace to lift MVSU closer to the win. Tylia Dixon contributed 14-digs. In blocks, Dixon led the team with five, Joilyn Azore added three and Buard tallied one.
Polk demonstrated a speed and agility that left the Lady Panthers questioning her ability to get the ball up, landing an astounding 32 assists.
