ITTA BENA - The Mississippi Valley State University Devilettes played the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs in what would be a dogfight, dropping the contest 3-1.
In the first set, Haley Buard helped the Devillettes end their 4-0 scoring drought. As the first set progressed the Devillettes then swapped scores with the Lady Bulldogs. After being tied at 17-17, MVSU then went on a 6-0 run making it 23-18. The Lady Bulldogs tried to stage a rally near the end but the Devillettes stopped them in their tracks and closed out the set 25-18.
In the second set Mississippi Valley tried to find their offensive rhythm but couldn't as Alabama A & M put together their rout of 8-0 then 5-15. The Devilettes did not give the match away easily as they started a run of 5-0 making it 10-16. They followed up their run with a combination of saves and digs but ultimately MVSU would fall to AAMU 25-20.
In the third set the Devilettes faced an energized Lady Bulldog team. Without hesitation the Alabama A & M came out barking, but Mississippi Valley built on their lead, making it 15-8, but the Lady Bulldogs rallied back to make it 16-15, prior to building on their lead, making it 23-19. The Devilettes would pushed back but ultimately fell to the Lady Bulldogs 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Devillettes suffered a 25-15 loss to The Lady Bulldogs. The Devillettes pushed hard but the Lady Bulldogs' offense was relentless.
Kalin Barnes and Taylor Selfridge finished with double-doubles. Barnes tallied 18-kills, 18-digs and two blocks for the contest, while Selfridge added 10-kills, 13-digs and three blocks. Joilyn Azore finished with three blocks, one ace and one assist. Jaime Polk covered her area well tonight, finishing with 39 assists.
