CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley faced a tough opponent in Charleston Southern in their last game. The first half, MVSU maintained a close contest, however the second half, proved to be insurmountable.
The Delta Devils won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. Facing a stingy defense, the Delta Devils went three and out, with Ruben Piraquive punting 31-yards. Charleston Southern didn't fare much better against the Mississippi Valley defense. They were able to move the ball; however, their field goal attempt went wide right. On their next drive, a 30-yard field goal attempt by the Delta Devils went wide right.
The first quarter remained scoreless. The second quarter was close, at halftime, MVSU trailed by only three-points (10-7).
The third quarter was the catalyst that halted the Delta Devils' progress. Giving up 35-points in the period secured the win for Charleston Southern. In the fourth, CSU scored an additional 13-points as an insurance policy.
The passing game for Mississippi Valley tallied 318 yards on 44 attempts and one touchdown. Christopher Fowler went 22-30-163 and one interception. Dewayne Betts entered the contest and finished 6-8-106, one interception and one touchdown pass.
Quinn McElfresh tallied 80 yards on six receptions.
Defensively, Mark Pegues, paced the team with eight tackles. He finished the contest with four solo and four assists and 0.5 tackles for a loss of one yard. Amani Peoples finished with five total tackles (four solo and one assist) and one forced fumble.
