JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi Valley State grinded out a five-set loss over Jackson State, dropping the contest 3-2.
In the first set of the competitive match, the Devilettes showed extraordinary offensive efficiency. Â The competition was fierce with MVSU taking the set 25-21.
In the second set, the Devillettes took the win with the score of 25-21 again. The energy was palpable in the TB Ellis Gymnasium.
In the third set, Jackson State fought back to keep the match going, winning the set 25-18. The Lady Tigers went on to capture the fourth and fifth sets, with scores of 25-23 and 15-9. With the win, Jackson State ended the Devilettes' 2017 campaign and tournament hopes.
Kalin Barnes and Taylor Selfridge led MVSU with 17 kills each. Barnes recorded 11 digs, and Selfridge racked up 24 digs. Jessica Bell led the Devilettes with 25 digs, and Jaime Polk served up 29 assists to go with seven digs.
