ITTA BENA, Miss. --- Four members of the 2016-17 Mississippi Valley State softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year, the organization announced.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes had to have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 from the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions. NCAA Division I, with 1,240 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher. Overall, 5,493 softball players earned NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors.
The Devilettes named as NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes included Elissa Salinas, Lacy Wilburn, Andrea Elmore and Jordan Brown.
