ITTA BENA – (Women's Basketball) The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University dropped a heartbreaking 62-57 loss to the Colonels of Nicholls State University.
The contest was completely in favor of Nicholls State early in the opening period (25-8), yet during the second the pendulum swung in favor of the Devilettes (20-12).
The second and third quarters were a stretch as both teams battled for the upper hand. After a 16-13 third period, Mississippi Valley entered the final ten-minutes down 50-44.
Trips to the free-throw line during the fourth made a difference as 10 of the 12-points scored by the Colonels came from the charity stripe.
LaKendra Bassett and Kristy Parker completed the contest with 19-points each. Bassett also added eight rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Parker finished with three-rebounds, two steals and one assist. Desirae Mosley tallied 11-rebounds, seven-points, five assists and one steal.
MVSU shot 41.9 percent for the contest.
Mississippi Valley will play Murray State on December 18 at 6:00 pm in Murray, Kentucky.
