Hammond, La. – (Softball) The season has arrived and the Devilettes, despite dropping a 4-3 decision to the Colonels of Nicholls, are battle ready.
Mississippi Valley served as the home team, thus batting in the bottom of the inning. Allowing one run in the top of the inning (first) placed Nicholls in the driver's seat, however they weren't there long as MVSU scored twice in the bottom of the inning.
With a shutout in the top of the second and a runner scoring in the bottom of the inning, the Devilettes were able to take a 3-1 lead over the Colonels.
Things turned in the third, it was here that Nicholls scored three runs to recapture the lead, 4-3.
Rebekah Clinton took the loss on the mound for the Devilettes, allowing six hits and two earned runs in six innings. Jackie Johnson recorded the win for the Colonels.
"It was a great opening day game for the Devilettes. The players were very intense today and most of all excited. We made a statement from the very beginning, defensively and offensively. Clinton [Rebekah] pitched very well today. Monica Rivera entered in the top of the seventh to close out the inning. We're looking forward to playing Coppin State at 1:00 p.m.," stated Head Coach Lee Smith.
