ITTA BENA (Men's Basketball) With tournament hopes in their eyes, the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley had an uphill battle on their hands. MVSU's blackout against the Jackson State Tigers ended in overtime with a 70-67 victory.
The Delta Devils entered with determination and shots blazing. The opening half ended with MVSU up 40-25.
Isaac Williams dominated in the first 30-minutes with 16-points.
In the second, the Tigers began to clamber back into the contest, causing their fans to roar with excitement. Despite, the large lead in the first, Jackson State was able to outscore Mississippi Valley 38-23, taking the game into overtime.
The overtime period was dismal in scoring. With the Tigers up, Mississippi Valley had to dig deep to outmuscle Jackson State by three.
Isaac Williams finished with 24-points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists; while Marcus Romain tallied 14-points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists. Michael Matlock paced the team with nine rebounds.
MVSU will host Grambling State University on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 7:30 p.m.
