LORMAN, Miss. (Men's Basketball) In Lorman, Mississippi it was a rainy afternoon when the Braves of Alcorn State hosted the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University, for the first round of Southwestern Athletic Conference 2016-17 Basketball Tournament.

The basketball arena may have held a sea of purple and gold, however just behind the team bench was a section of Valley faithful. The band and cheerleaders were also in attendance as MVSU suffered a 63-60 season ending loss.

The first half was full of action, the game was tied four times, making it apparent that both teams wanted to move on to Houston, Texas, for the remaining contests in the tournament.

During the season, Alcorn hosted the Delta Devils first, with MVSU emerging with an 84-77 victory. Upon their arrival at MVSU, the Braves were looking to avenge their home court loss. They defeated MVSU 88-77.

In the opening half, Marcus Romain led with 14-points. Jabari Alex contributed eight-points and 2-rebounds. The halftime score was Alcorn 38- MVSU 29.

Romain led the team with 29-points and 6 rebounds. Rashaan Surles contributed 17-points, five-assists, and six-rebounds.
