ITTA BENA – (Softball) Mississippi Valley's softball team opened their home and conference campaign for the 2017 season live on ESPNU with the Lady Jaguars of Southern University. With high winds and chilly bats, the Devilettes succumbed 6-1.

Southern was able to put up three runs in the first inning, taking the driver's seat for the contest. Mississippi Valley's lone run came in during the third inning.

The Lady Jags score two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

The Devilettes finished with one run on four hits and three errors.

Rebekah Clinton took the loss for MVSU inside the pitcher's circle.
