ITTA BENA – (Softball) Mississippi Valley's softball team split their doubleheader against the Southern University Lady Jaguars. In game one, MVSU fell 5-4 and in game two they prevailed 6-1.
The game was slow in starting. In inning two, Mississippi Valley scored one run. With no runs in the third or fourth innings, Mississippi Valley was maintaining a narrow lead.
In the fifth, the Devilettes scored an additional two runs. In the top of the sixth, Southern scored one run. The Lady Jaguars rallied back to score four runs in the seventh. MVSU scored once in the bottom of the seventh, however their efforts fell short.
Chandler Ellis took the loss for MVSU inside the pitcher's circle.
In game two, Mississippi Valley surged back with a vengeance, scoring three-runs in the first. The Devilettes scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth.
In the seventh, Southern scored one run in the top of the inning.
Mississippi Valley finished with six runs, seven hits and one error.
