Mississippi Valley Wins Series Over Lady Braves

LORMAN, Miss. – (Softball) Mississippi Valley State softball clinched their series over the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University, despite splitting on day two.

In game one, Alcorn State recorded a 10-2 victory in five innings, however in game two, Mississippi Valley took game two 7-1. The victory also carried Head Coach Lee Smith into MVSU history as the winningest coach in history with 381 wins.

Game One:

Mississippi Valley jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the first. Deja Talton tripled to right center to score Jordan Brown and Holly Brown.

Alcorn scored five runs in the first, three in the second and two in the third. The remainder of the contest went scoreless.

The Devilettes finished with two runs, four hits and one error.

Chandler Ellis received the loss for Mississippi Valley.

Game Two:

Game two opened with the skies ready to explode at any moment. The first three innings were scoreless.

In the top of the fourth, MVSU took command of the contest with three runners scored. Deja Talton singled to the left side to score Jordan Brown. Lacy Wilburn sent a long ball into the glove of the right fielder, however it was enough to score Kailyn Dunn. Anna Sanchez singled to score Jodeci Afoa-Tuia.

Alcorn scored once in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the fifth, MVSU scored their final four runs. Jordan Brown reached on fielder's choice to score Lexany Terrones. Afoa-Tuia doubled to left field, scoring Dunn and Miranda Sandovol. A single by Gage pushed Afoa-Tuia home.  

Rebekah Clinton took the win for Mississippi Valley inside the pitcher's circle. MVSU finished with seven runs on eight hits and no errors.
