ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University found common ground with six other teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference in falling to Alabama A&M in four sets Monday.

Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-27, 25-19, and 25-14.

The visiting Lady Bulldogs (11-12) remained undefeated atop the SWAC standings with a 7-0 conference record following the victory over Valley.

Taylor Selfridge knocked down seven kills and tallied 13 digs to lead the Devilettes (2-19, 0-7 SWAC). Chardea Berthelot put away six kills for Valley, while Joilyn Azore chipped in five kills.

MVSU setter Ariana Austin recorded a double-double, tallying 23 assists and 10 digs. She also had four kills on seven attempts, good for a .429 hitting percentage.

Jessica Bell led the defensive effort for Valley with 20 digs.

Valley trailed most of set two, but put together an impressive 6-1 run late in the set to turn a four-point deficit into a 25-24 lead, bringing the Devilettes to set point. After AAMU tied the score at 25, Valley rallied for the next two points, with Azore putting away the kill for point 27 to give the Devilettes the win.

The Devilettes return to action next Monday, Oct. 8, when they host Alcorn State in the team's Dig Pink match. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
