Devilettes turned away at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State were unable to sustain their winning streak Thursday as they fell in three sets at Jackson State.
 
Scores of the match were 26-24, 25-15, and 25-12.
 
Taylor Selfridge finished one dig shy of a double-double, tallying 14 kills and nine digs to lead the Devilettes (3-20, 1-8 SWAC), who finished the half of Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
 
Tyler Caliste put away five kills, while Ariana Austin handed out 18 assists for Valley.
 
Set one featured 10 ties and six lead changes. The Devilettes led by as much as 20-17 in the latter stages, and even held a 24-22 lead at set point. However, the Lady Tigers responded with four straight kills to win the set; two of those kills came from Tielar Richards, who led JSU with 10 kills.
 
As a team, the Devilettes hit .243 in the first set, but were held to a minus-.049 hitting percentage in the latter two sets.
 
The Devilettes return to action Monday when they visit Dillard for a non-conference match. They resume conference play next weekend at the second SWAC roundup in Huntsville, where the Devilettes will face each of the five traditional West Division teams in three sdays.
