MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University gave their strongest performance of the young season Saturday before falling 68-59 at Robert Morris (Pa.).
Dante Scott scored a team-high 16 points, while Michael Green chipped in 13 points off the Valley bench. Robert Morris' Malik Petteway scored a game-high 26 points for the Colonials.
The Delta Devils showed some resiliency in the game and trailed only 37-31 going into halftime. The Colonials would stretch their lead to as much as 15 points, but that was immediately met with a 7-0 Valley run that RMU's lead to 52-44 with 9:28 left to play. The Delta Devils scored their seven points during the run over a 95-second span.
Jordan Evans scored 12 points for the Delta Devils (0-5), and made two out of his seven 3-point shot attempts. Emmanuel Ejeh pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds and scored four points for the Delta Devils.
Valley kept pace with their hosts for most of the game despite shooting only 32 percent (19 of 59) from the floor during the game.
The Delta Devils return to Mississippi for their first official home game of the season when they host Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Harrison HPER Complex.
