ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State University played another close exhibition contest Saturday before falling to nearby Delta State 70-67.
Valley's Dante Scott scored a game-high 28 points on 9-of-18 shooting and made five 3-pointers to lead the Delta Devils on Saturday. Tereke Eckwood scored 11 points for Valley.
The Delta Devils led for most of the second half before the visiting Statesmen finished the final 3:38 of the game on a 12-4 run.
After falling behind by five points in the final minute of the contest, Valley made it a one-possession game when Emmanuel Ejeh rebounded a miss from Jordan Evans with 48 seconds left to play. The Delta Devils then held the Statesmen scoreless on the next possession and had a chance to tie, but Scott's 3-point try with six seconds left was off the mark.
Evans scored eight points for the Delta Devils, as did Michael Green. Ejeh scored four points and pulled in a team-high nine rebounds.
The Delta Devils open their regular season Tuesday visit Nebraska. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
