LORMAN, Miss. – The Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University fell at in-state rival Alcorn State on Monday, giving the two teams a split of the season series.
 
Scores of the match were 25-12, 25-23, and 25-23.
 
Tyler Caliste knocked down 11 kills to lead the Devilettes, who return home for their final match of the season Thursday when they face Jackson State.
 
Ariana Austin finished a dig shy of a double-double for the Devilettes, handing out 27 assists and tallying nine digs. Kalin Barnes led the defensive effort with 14 digs, followed by Jessica Bell's 11 digs.
 
MVSU's Destini Banks knocked down six kills on 10 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Taylor Selfridge chipped in four kills and nine digs.
 
After a slow start in set two that saw Valley fall behind 8-1, the Devilettes rallied, and eventually tied the match at 17. Selfridge and Tylia Dixon had two kills apiece during that stretch.
 
Caliste knocked down six of her kills in set two, and hit .385 during the set. The Devilettes would eventually take a 23-20 lead before Alcorn rallied for the final five points of the set.
 
Set three also saw the Devilettes fall behind early, but the visitors climbed back into the set consecutive points to turn an 11-4 deficit into a 14-11 lead. Banks had three kills during the run, while Barnes served all of her team-high three aces during that span.
 
From there, the teams went back-and-forth, with neither side building a lead of more than three points. Alcorn took the set and the match by rallying for the final three points.
