Delta Devils Takeover the Second Half to down Alabama A&M

ITTA BENA, Miss. --- The Bulldogs of Alabama A&M lead by as many as 13 points in the first half; however, clutch play by Jordan Evans tied the game going into halftime at 37 all.

Evans lead the Delta Devils with 12 points into the half followed by eight points from Gemaal Davis. The highlight for the Bulldogs was junior, Arthur Johnson who dropped 16 points in the 16 minutes he played in the first half, and he also pulled in seven rebounds to put him on track for a double-double night.

In the first half, the Delta Devils shot 40 percent from the field, 50 percent from beyond the arc and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe. Statistically, the Delta Devils had a pretty goof first half. However, the Bulldogs outscored the Delta Devils in the paint 10 to 4 and in second chance opportunities, 12 to 5.

In addition, the Bulldogs outrebounded the Delta Devils 24 to 17 in the opening half, but a much-needed contribution from the Delta Devils' bench and their ability to stay poised and make shots from beyond the arc is what kept the Delta Devils from falling behind.

The Bulldogs displayed excellent ball movement in the first half, which resulted in mismatches down low allowing the Bulldogs to get more looks in the paint. However, the Delta Devils were active on defense forcing the Bulldogs to throw up shots as the shot clock began to wind down.

The second half opened offensively with an Evans and-one followed by Dante Scott manhandling his way into the paint. Buckets from Evans and Scott sparked the offense that the Delta Devils needed to take their first lead (54-47) of the night with a little over 12 minutes to go in the contest. Once the Delta Devils got the lead they didn't let up; instead they continued to run the score up which carried them victoriously to the finish line.

The second half favored the Delta Devils, as they became more sound on defense. Most notably was Emmanuel Ejeh blocking shots to defend the Delta Devils' lead late in the half. The Delta Devils also got their shots to fall when they needed, especially from Davis off the bench. In the last two minutes of the game, fouling threatened the Delta Devils' lead as the Bulldogs sunk free throws. With 53.5 seconds left in the game, the Delta Devils led by five points and the Bulldogs were forced to foul sending a host of Delta Devils to the charity stripe which solidified the Delta Devils' 77-67 win. While in the double bonus, Dante Scott put the cherry on top with two made free throws.

In the win, Jordan Evans lead the Delta Devils with 23 points. Dante Scott followed with 16 points, and Gemaal Davis added 10 points off the bench. Emmanuel Ejeh contributed an impressive 15 rebounds, nine points, and three blocks in the win.

The Delta Devils will travel to the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center to face A.J. Mosby and the Braves. The Braves took a 77-63 in their first meeting of the season at the R.W. Harrison Complex. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
